CHRISTMAS ON MAIN KICKS OFF OXFORD HOLIDAY SEASON

Mayor Alton Craft leading the countdown to the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree served as the climax of the 2024 Christmas on Main celebration held Saturday, November 16.

The annual event, led by Historic Main Street Oxford, gave visitors the chance to shop the Main Street businesses, along with more than 25 food and craft vendors who set up along the decorated downtown area.

Hundreds enjoyed free cookies by participating in the “Cookie Walk on Main,” free train rides for the kids, live musical performances, and having their photos made with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The six-hour festival closed in Simmons Park with a special performance by the Oxford High School show choir, dressed in their madrigal finest, followed by the lighting of the Christmas tree, and the traditional caroling-by-candlelight version of “Silent Night.”

“This event has become so precious to so many of us,” said Gwen Parrish, who served as chairperson of the event for Historic Main Street Oxford. “It has grown so much over the last five years, and we look forward to continuing the tradition we can pass on to the next generations.”

“We appreciate the vendors, the choir, and the Main Street staff for putting all of this together,” Craft said. “Merry Christmas!”
