BIG JACK STOVALL FIELD GETS OFFICIAL RIBBON CUTTING

The city of Oxford held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly refurbished Big Jack Stovall Field on Airport Road on Monday, February 10, 2025.

The field was leased to Hope Christian Academy by the city in November 2023, and the school has funded all infrastructure improvements since that time and currently uses the field as the home of the HCA Saints.

“This has been a great partnership,” stated Mayor Alton Craft. “We needed a location to play flag football, so we reached out to them, and they had us on the field even before it was finished. They have done everything – providing water, relocating light poles – and they have done an outstanding job.”

“Utilizing this facility has been a great opportunity,” said HCA principal Nick Burns. It’s also great to honor this family. Everyone I have spoken with said Mr. Stovall cared about children and poured into them. That’s what we want to do: follow up on that legacy.”

Stovall, who passed away in 2017, was a much-loved and respected 25-year employee with Oxford Parks and Recreation.

Stovall’s son, Jackie, said the difference the two years under HCA have made on the field “is amazing.”

“My dad would be so proud, and I know he’s smiling down on us,” Jackie said. “On behalf of me, my mom, and my sisters, we are very thankful for the city and everybody at Hope Christian. I’m going to be one of your biggest fans. Go Saints!”
