VIS1ON STUDENTS CELEBRATE SUCCESSFUL YEAR; MAYOR SALUTES GREENPOWER NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
The city of Oxford and Oxford City Schools co-hosted a special luncheon at the CREATE Center on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, for the Oxford High School students who participated in the Vis1on program for the current school year.
Vis1on is a program that allows high school students to regularly meet with city and business leaders to discuss and develop ideas that can improve the lives of Oxford's citizens.
The students heard remarks from Vis1on leaders, Assistant Fire Chief Ben Stewart and CREATE Director of Partnerships and Support Lorie Denton, as well as Oxford High School principal Seth Taylor, with students given time to review the work accomplished during the year.
“The Vis1on team comes up with new ideas every year,” said Mayor Alton Craft. “This is the first group that is actually taking your vision, not only for this year, but into the future. When this first started, all we wanted to do was to meet with you and see what you wanted in our city. But you have proven yourselves to be remarkable students and citizens. You are extremely important to us, and I hope wherever you go and whatever you do, you become the leaders you are and have been for Oxford.”
Mayor Craft also saluted the OHS Greenpower team, who recently brought home another national championship.
“I love watching the students race. It’s the coolest thing,” Craft said. “We used to just think of being state champions, and now we have national champions. That’s what I like, and the city council and I are very proud of you.”
The students ended their morning with a taco buffet prepared by Hubbard’s Off Main.
