The Oxford City Council, on behalf of Mayor Alton Craft and the city of Oxford, presented a proclamation to the members of the Big O’ Racing Team on the occasion of their winning the 2025 Greenpower USA National Championship.
The presentation was made during the City Council’s regular session on May 13, 2025.
This marks the fourth national championship for the team, which is now part of the CREATE Center. The latest championship competition was held at Talladega Superspeedway on May 4, 2025.
The proclamation noted that the 40 ninth through twelfth grade students engineered four electric cars, competed in seven races in Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama, accrued 1,152 racing miles, earned 23 podium finishes, and won nine first-place finishes.
“The team demonstrated resilience, discipline, and outstanding teamwork throughout the season, culminating in a dominant performance at the National Championship event,” the proclamation read. The team was further recognized for “their remarkable achievement and continued representation of the excellence, determination, and innovation that define the Oxford community.”
