City Council provides new AEDs to Oxford Health Systems

Tom Dixon, executive director of the Health Care Authority of Oxford, was on hand during the May 27, 2025 City Council meeting to accept 25 Automated External Defibrillators (AED) purchased by the City Council to be placed in the city’s public venues, facilities, and other buildings as determined by the city’s designated AED coordinator.

An AED is a portable, life-saving device designed to analyze heart rhythms and deliver an electric shock if needed to restore normal heart function.

According to the agreement between the city and the Health Care Authority, the new AEDs will become the property of the Health Care Authority and be maintained by Oxford Health Systems, which will inspect them monthly, replenish any associated supplies, and handle any necessary maintenance for a period of five years.

This cooperative agreement involves the city of Oxford and the Health Care Authority working together to enhance emergency medical response capabilities and better protect public health.
