The Choccolocco Monsters come up short in two heartbreaking playoff games, but won the hearts of some special area residents.
The Monsters lost to the Atlanta Crackers 6-5 after a hard-fought 10-inning game on Friday, June 25, 2025, followed by a 4-3 loss the next night, cutting short their chances for a second consecutive Sunbelt Baseball League championship.
However, the Monsters shared the opening ceremony honors to start the series at Choccolocco Park with members of Oxford’s “A League of Our Own” softball programs.
The special guests entered the field, greeted with high-fives from the Atlanta team, before standing at home plate as the National Anthem was played.
Pitchers from both SBL teams took their playing position to catch opening pitches delivered straight down the middle from two lucky League players.
The Monsters then lined the baseline to deliver their high-fives to their special guests, who received a special bag of Monsters swag as a show of appreciation for the League players’ efforts and hard work during the season.
Next up for A League of Our Own is the 2025 Soccer Camp, which will focus on all aspects of the game, including shooting/scoring, dribbling, passing, and ball control. Each session will cover these skills and conclude with a game. The dates are September 13, 20, and 27. The registration deadline is Friday, August 8, and the form can be found by visiting the A League of Our Own Facebook page.
