Oxford Parks and Recreation hosted its annual Fall Senior Day at the Oxford Civic Center on Monday, September 14, 2026.

The 2026 version, with a football tailgating theme, brought 500 seniors from across the region, where they were greeted by 17 vendors and the music of Alabama Rain featuring Ryan Robertson.

Emcee Jon Holder welcomed what he affectionately called “the rowdy crowd” dressed in their favorite school colors and jerseys.

Keeping with the tailgate theme, the usual sandwich lunch was swapped for grilled hot dogs.

Oxford Senior Center director Hal West said the PARD-sponsored special days serve as a regional effort to give seniors a chance to get out and fellowship.

“It gives them an opportunity to get out and mix with other seniors,” West said. “What we do at the Senior Center and through this program is give them an opportunity to meet new people, with the additional fun of the music and door prizes. This is a great thing Oxford does for seniors.”

PARD director Don Hudson said this most recent event began in 1981 and has gotten bigger every year.

“It’s been highly successful over the years, and this is one of the biggest crowds we’ve ever had,” Hudson said. “The whole idea of this was for the fun and fellowship. It’s good for them and it’s good for us. When they leave here, they are happy people.”

PARD’s next Senior Day will be in February for the annual salute to Valentine’s Day.
