Oxford Fire Department Celebrates National Fire Prevention Week

Oxford Fire Department Celebrates National Fire Prevention Week

The Oxford Fire Department brought National Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 5-9, 2026) to the three Oxford elementary schools in a personal and fun way for the students.

Students at Oxford, Dearmanville, and Coldwater Elementary schools were able to interact with firefighters, who explained what to do to both prevent fires and to keep them and their families safe should the need arise. Sparky the Fire Dog was also on hand to add some fun and smiles to the serious subject.

Firefighters invited some friends to the final day on Friday, October 9, 2026, when Oxford Elementary students found several specialized vehicles lined up ready for exploration by curious kids.

Vehicles from Oxford Fire, Oxford Police, Oxford Public Works, and Oxford Paramedics were joined by their operators and K-9 Havoc to explain all the tools and equipment these vehicles carry and their importance in keeping people safe.

Oxford Fire Department is also offering a special section on their website for kids which includes videos, interactive games, puzzles, and printable pages for coloring. The website is oxfordfd.org.

This year’s theme is “Charge Into Fire Safety,” a theme chosen by the National Fire Protection Association to address the rising number of fires linked to lithium‑ion batteries in devices such as phones, laptops, e‑bikes, scooters, and power tools. The campaign emphasizes safe charging habits to prevent overheating, fire, or battery failure.

More information to keep families and businesses safe from fire hazards is available anytime by contacting the Oxford Fire Department at 256-831-3208.
